Statement of Reason: At the July 2, 2007 meeting of the Comstock Township Board of Trustees, Trustee William G. Shields accused fellow board members of corruption, abuse of power, and failure to carry out the duties of their offices. Trustee William G. Shields filed a federal lawsuit against the Charter Township of Comstock on January 25, 2008. Trustee William G. Shields filed a lawsuit against each member of the Comstock Township Board of Trustees on January 25, 2008. On December 17, 2007, Trustee William G. Shields voted to award Balkema Sitework & Development a contract in the construction of a fire station on River Street in Comstock Township and subsequently refused to authorize payment to Balkema Sitework on January 21, 2008 and March 3, 2008. Justification of Office: I have not broken any local, state or federal laws. I want accountability; items bid out, interviews, background checks, drug test for employees, lifeguards, vehicles lettered. I want township vehicles not used for personal use or snowplowing. When I brought these concerns to the Board's attention they didn't want to talk about them. I was denied the right to speak during Citizens Comments and the Board voted on it. This was a Federal violation and the reason for the lawsuit. When I have pointed out the corruption and their lack of concern the Administration didn't like it, thus the reason for recalling me. Art Austin, Lorence Wenke and his sister Judith Joling are the leaders of the recall group. Their petition clearly stated a lie. The clarity board of Tim Snow and Judge donald Halstead approved it anyway. How unprofessional of them. The 44 petition circulators are either friends, relatives or on the Township payroll. The Fire Station cost of $123,000.00 wasn't clearly explained and cost is still being added onto. This doesn't include the building. I feel this is not at all being accountable to the taxpayers. I'm on the Township Board to represent all the citizens. Shall Wiliam G. Shields be recalled from the office of Comstock charter Township Trustee?
